Hakeem Nicks not practicing but looks good on the side
Hakeem Nicks was as close to practicing as a guy who was not practicing could be.
The wide receiver was wearing pads and stretching with the team in the early stages of the workout before peeling off for some work with trainers outside the fieldhouse. There he was running, high-stepping, even cutting. It seemed, from a distance anyway, that Nicks was putting himself through a nice little test run. He’ll be listed as not participating in today’s practice, but Tom Coughlin said he is hopeful that he will be able to be on the field one day this week. As long as that knee doesn’t swell up too much after today’s activity, he’s probably a pretty good bet to play on Sunday.
Some more good news on the injury front, although it will not pay immediate dividends for the Giants, was Kenny Phillips out doing some running alongside Nicks. Phillips has missed the last 1.9 games with an MCL injury, and if he does not have any setbacks he could conceivably be back to practicing next week and on the field against the Redskins.
Other injury notes: Rocky Bernard was not practicing … Corey Webster was sidelined, but did not have a cast on his broken right hand and was even throwing passes during drills with that injured hand. It’s his hamstring that is now keeping him out … Antrel Rolle (knee) said yesterday his injury was a “constant battle.” Rolle won the battle today. He was practicing … Chase Blackburn (hip) was not practicing but is expected to be back tomorrow. Michael Boley and Keith Rivers were both participating, though they might end up as limited … Ramses Barden practiced after missing last week with a concussion. The newest concussed Giant, Andre Brown, was not on the field … Justin Tuck did not appear to be in pads and could wind up on the injury report this week. He was doing some drills early on … David Diehl was doing some individual drills. It does not seem like he’ll be ready to play this week, but then again where would he fit in? Can’t see the Giants making changes on an o-line that just ran for 243 yards and has allowed four sacks this season.
