Heeere's Tommy! Coughlin turns on the charm at presser
Tom Coughlin put on quite the entertaining show at his press conference today, an effort with the media that included him calling Pat Hanlon the peanut gallery, walking around imitating a robot, and expounding eloquently on the virtues of none other than Dwayne Hendricks.
Yes, it’s Jets week. Everybody needs to up their game.
The robot moves came about during questions regarding Martellus Bennett and his outgoing personality.
“I like them to have their own personality, I just like them to be able to structure it within the concept of trying to keep the focus on the game and on the field and on the team,” Coughlin said. “I don’t like robots. I like to kid around with them once in a while too but I like it when it’s acceptable and when it isn’t acceptable.”
It was brought up to Coughlin that the perception of him earlier in his tenure with the Giants was that he wanted robots. That’s when he stiffened up and started strutting around the stage with his arms swinging mechanically.
“I got along better with them, I’ll tell you that,” Coughlin said. “I’ve become more patient.”
As for Hendricks, Coughlin was asked if any players had surprised him in the preseason game. It was the kind of question Coughlin usually devours with a snarl, and he did take a jab at the question-asker. But then, after naming a few players like Isaiah Stanback, Rueben Randle and Will Hill, he got to Henrdicks, the second-year defensive tackle from Miami (Florida).
“I’ve told anybody that goes against Dwayne Hendricks, he’s going full speed every play. Ok? So if you’re foolish enough to think that he’s not going to make you look bad, you’re ridiculous. So he goes out and plays the game just like he practices and he did very well for himself.”
