When Damontre Moore showed up at his new office earlier this week, there was a note waiting for him in his locker. It was from Justin Tuck. It said, simply: “I hope you are ready to work.”

Moore says that he is, despite criticism from Tom Coughlin at the time of his third-round selection that he was a strong player on Saturdays at Texas A&M but needed to improve his performances Monday through Friday. Moore agrees that working hard during the week was not his “strong forte,” but promised that he is ready to shed that label.

“I’m here to work and I’m trying to make my weakness my strong point,” he said. “It’s nothing but motivation and good criticism, so for a talented guy to point out my flaws like that and tell me what I need to work on, all that means is I need to go in there and work on it that much harder.”

Moore, a pass-rushing defensive end, said he is excited to learn from the veterans and coaches in an organization that has a long history of harassing quarterbacks. He said his first impression of defensive coordinator Perry Fewell was that he was “the real deal” and he “meant business.”

“Going in I’m working as hard as I can and if I’m blessed enough to get on the field I’ll give it my all and hopefully I can make something happen,” he said. “I’m just going to go in there and work hard, study film and learn from the greats. Hopefully something will happen and everything will fall into place … You know there are a lot of vets, a lot of talented people here right now who are here teaching and coaching and I’m just sitting here trying to soak it all in. I’m ready to get to work and hopefully a little bit of that rubs off on me and I can have a little success.”

That note from Tuck has already made an impression on Moore.

“I was excited that he took time out of his busy schedule to take the time to write me a personal message,” Moore said. “At the same time, I know it’s time to get to work so I’m ready to come in and listen to him.”
