MetLife Stadium and SB48 are just six months and a parking lot away for the Giants
MetLife Stadium sits across the parking lot from where the Giants will hold training camp. About a half mile and about six months away.
The Giants are the only team in the NFL that will spend the rest of the season staring at the site of the upcoming Super Bowl. It will be there in the background as they stretch for practices this camp and throughout the season. And it will be on their mind as they work through the 2013 season and whatever fate that holds.
Today it was hanging over the players' shoulders as they took part in the pre-camp conditioning drills.
“We have 19 other games to worry about before that game approaches, just like any other team,” Antrel Rolle said today. “We’re just very determined to be there and just the fact that it’s going to be here in our stadium is the cherry on top. We’re definitely looking forward to it. We’re going to aim high, we’re going to aim extremely high, as high as we can aim each and every week, and try not to have any letdowns.”
Victor Cruz has the added motivation of not only potentially playing the Super Bowl in his team’s home stadium, but doing it in his hometown.
“It’s an exciting opportunity,” Cruz said. “We understand that it’s enough motivation – we don’t even need to talk about it. It’s there. It’s in front of us. We just have to go get it. It’s something that we’re looking forward to if we can get there and we’re putting all of our eggs in that basket. I mean, that’s what we play for, so we just want to take it one step at a time. We’re not looking ahead. We’re not looking too far into the future. We want to get a good training camp in and take it one day at a time, a month to get better, and then we’ll cross that bridge as season progresses.”
Only there’s no bridge to cross. Just a parking lot.
