Two newest Giants have a ring of familiarity

If the two newest Giants have names that sound familiar, then you were paying very close attention to the league last month … and in 1987.

Tight end Chase Clement, who was originally believed to be signing with the Giants earlier this offseason as an undrafted player out of LSU but failed his physical prior to rookie minicamp, Tweeted a picture of himself signing with the Giants this evening. And linebacker Kyle Bosworth, nephew of Brian “The Boz” Bosworth who was a shooting star out of Oklahoma in the late 1980s, also Tweeted that he had signed with the Giants. He’s from UCLA and played for the Jaguars in 2011 and 2012.

You might also know Bosworth from being engaged to Kara Keough, daughter of former Yankees pitcher Matt Keough and Jeana Keough of “The Real Housewives of Orange County.”

The Giants have not announced the signings, but likely will do so tomorrow.

That will mean two players will have to be waived or released. I’ll leave that speculation to others.

As for where these guys fit, it’s interesting that the Giants were shopping for fullbacks today (to replace Henry Hynoski for the rest of the offseason and likely the early parts of training camp) and wound up getting a tight end and linebacker. But Clement being a tight end can free up Bear Pascoe to play fullback. And Bosworth gives the Giants more competition at linebacker where they are hoping – but who can be certain? – that veterans Aaron Curry and Keith Rivers can somehow find their first-round form.
