Weeden says he was "a sponge" listening to Eli
Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden may be just a few years younger than Eli Manning, but the rookie quarterback has always looked up to his Giants counterpart.
"I know Eli from going to the Manning camp the last few summers," Weeden said. "Just sitting in the room with him and Peyton I was like a sponge. I don’t think I blinked one time. I was listening to everything they had to say. He’s got two Super Bowls. He’s a guy that’s had a lot of success. He’s had to follow in his big brother’s footsteps his whole career, but the guy is a heck of a player. He’s an elite quarterback."
Weededn said he didn't have a favorite team growing up, but he's always been a student of quarterbacks.
"He’s one of the guys I enjoy watching," he said of Eli. "I’ll flip on the tape or I’ll watch games when the Giants are playing. He’s a quarterback that I like to watch."
The Browns would like for him to eventually become a little more like Manning.
"I think now he has to improve and put together a winning performance, much like Eli," Browns coach Pat Shurmur said. "I have a great deal of respect for Eli because he’s won football games and two championships, so he’s found that right combination there in New York."
