T-Rock's Take on the Giants
Coming off the first win of the season, all of the Giants who will attend the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Champions for Children Gala on Friday night should be in a good mood. Especially the one who is being honored.
John Mara, president and CEO of the team, will be one of this year’s honorees. Along with Frank J.Bisignano, CEO of First Data Corporation, he will be recognized for “civic leadership...Read more »
With the NFL trading deadline at the end of the week, there is still uncertainty about what the Giants will do with Hakeem Nicks. Certainly there are contending teams that are in the market for a wide receiver – the Colts, Patriots, Falcons and Packers – and Nicks isn’t exactly a major contributor to the Giants’ offense these days. On Monday he was targeted 10 times and caught just two passes.
But...Read more »
In other Antrel Rolle news, the Giants safety said his hit on wide receiver Jerome Simpson last night was “absolutely not a penalty” and he will appeal any fines that the NFL levies against him for the play.
The play happened with a little less than two minutes left in the first half and Rolle came across the field and leveled Simpson. Flags flew.
“It absolutely was not a penalty,” Rolle...Read more »
Don’t expect a sigh of relief from Antrel Rolle.
The Giants safety told WFAN during his weekly appearance that winning the first game of the season Monday night against the Vikings does not relieve the pressure that was building as the team went winless through its first six games. In fact, he said it’s just the opposite.
“I think the pressure is on now more than ever,” he said. “In...Read more »
If the Giants lose tonight, the big question will no longer be how low the team can go. It will be how low should they go?
At 0-7, the season would ostensibly be over and it would be time to start planning for the future. That means the 2014 draft. And while there will undoubtedly be “competition” for the top pick in that selection process with the Jaguars and the Bucs, the two other winless...Read more »
You’d think that while Terrell Thomas was sitting out rehabbing from a torn ACL last season he was drawing some inspiration from what Adrian Peterson was able to accomplish.
“Nope,” Thomas said. “Not even a little bit.”
Just months after having his ACL torn in December 2011, Peterson ran for 2,097 yards in 2012 and was named the MVP and Offensive Player of the Year in the league. But...Read more »
Even the guy who would benefit the most from benching Eli Manning seems to be against the idea.
“Eli is our quarterback and I think he’s doing a great job and he’ll continue to do a great job,” backup quarterback Curtis Painter said (apparently using the word “great” as a euphemism for “interception-prone”). Manning leads the league with 15 interceptions and some questions have started to...Read more »
The Giants have the most turnovers in the NFL with 22, and Jared Allen and the Vikings would like to add to that number.
“When a team is turning the ball over, we went through it last year for a spurt, it can be one of those things that can be like a domino effect and it keeps happening,” the Vikings defensive end said. “Anytime a team is struggling, you want to put them in situations to remind...Read more »
The Giants’ quarterback is broken, but do they need a new one?
That was the question posed to four former NFL passers on CBS Sports Network’s show “NFL Monday QB” today. And here are their answers:
From Phil Simms: “It has been a rough year. But there is no doubt in my mind that I would stay with Eli Manning. And so will the Giants, because you know what you have. And, if you bring someone...Read more »
Don’t tell Eli Manning the season is over. As far as he’s concerned, the 0-5 Giants are in the thick of things.
“Yeah because (the division is) wide open and obviously we’re two games back right now,” he said. “Obviously we’ve got to play better football and do those things, but we still feel that we can get hot.”
The Giants are running out of time, but there are 11 games left with four...Read more »
