There’s usually some mixed emotions for a special teams performer when a player makes a big play against an opponent the week before he faces that team. That’s the conundrum for David Wilson. The Giants’ dangerous kickoff returner saw Trindon Holliday return a kickoff 105 yards for a touchdown against the Bengals last week. But he was unsure if that means there is a vulnerability there, or if the...Read more »
A.J. Green thinks there are plenty of places to make plays against the Giants’ secondary. And he isn’t afraid to tell them.
Appearing on WFAN this morning, the Bengals’ receiver took a shot at the Giants’ secondary and it’s recent lapses by telling hosts Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton: “I feel like they’ve got a lot of holes in their defense.”
OK, Green did have some praise. But not...Read more »
Asked about the middle of the Giants’ run defense against the Steelers, Tom Coughlin used a four-letter word as far as football players are concerned.
“It was soft, it was soft, no question,” Coughlin said. “It was soft early … We got mushed a little bit up front. Their big bodies knocked us back.”
Asked about being called soft, some defensive tackles took a bit of umbrage.
“That’s...Read more »
Now that Will Hill’s suspension is over, he believes the league should change it’s policy in regard to Adderall, the prescription drug he was caught using that violated the NFL’s performance-enhancing substance policy.
“It is a medical condition and people do take it for medical (purposes),” said Hill, who began taking it last spring for his ADHD. “I know there are other people who do take...Read more »
When the Giants visited the White House in June, Tom Coughlin turned to Barack Obama and told him: “We both have a goal to get back here next year.”
And now that Obama has been re-elected to a second term, Coughlin is expecting to keep up his end of the bargain for a return to the White House.
“He’s there,” Coughlin said. “We need to get there.”
He's got four more years to try....Read more »
Tom Coughlin normally drops in on Eli Manning in the quarterbacks room on Tuesdays to say hello, go over a few things, make sure he and Manning are moving forward together. On Tuesday, following one of the poorest performances of Manning’s career – certainly the worst in the regular season since he became a Super Bowl winner in 2007 – Coughlin again stopped by. This time, though, the two spoke in...Read more »
Tom Coughlin channeled his inner LL Cool J when discussing Kenny Phillips’ knee injury today.
Don’t call it a setback, he said.
Whatever he calls it, it will keep Phillips out for Sunday’s game against the Bengals and allow him to rest his ailing knee through the bye week. Coughlin said the team has shut their safety down until at least the Nov. 25 game against the Packers.
"It's...Read more »
The Giants might have an advantage against the Bengals this week because they sent their most trusted scout out to Cincinnati last weekend: Peyton Manning.
This will be only the third time in NFL history (at least the history since both brothers were in the league starting in 2004) that the Manning Brothers will face the same opponent in consecutive weeks. It will, however, be the first time...Read more »
So much for the three-safety look.
After planning to deploy the familiar scheme this week against a team that relies heavily on three-receiver sets, the Giants will be without one of the three safeties needed to form the trifecta. Kenny Phillips, who has missed the last four games with a knee injury, will miss a fifth. He is inactive despite practicing this week.
Also inactive is TE...Read more »
Tom Coughlin said his reaction to the Dez Bryant near-TD late in the Cowboys game was the same as everyone who was watching TV: How did he get behind the Giants’ defense in that situation?
Luckily for the Giants he was a few inches too far behind them. Still, how did it happen?
Miscommunication, Perry Fewell said.
“It was a pressure called and so some people were playing the pressure...Read more »
