“It never gets easier, because every year the principals involved are different,” said Tom Coughlin of making roster decisions on cut-down day. “My gut starts bothering me about two days before. The day of it I get the headache and the whole bit that goes with it. When you speak to these kids and you work with them and you see them, you do see their effort and what they put forth and how important...Read more »
The Giants made all of the cuts and roster moves necessary to get to 53 players, but there will undoubtedly be more changes before the plane leaves Newark airport for Dallas on Saturday.
For now, though, here are your 2013 New York Giants:
Offense (26) QB (3): Eli Manning, Curtis Painter, Ryan Nassib RB: (4): David Wilson, Andre Brown, Da’Rel Scott, Michael Cox FB (1): Henry Hynoski...Read more »
It was an injury that cost Antrel Rolle to miss the previous two preseason games. And it was an injury that nudged him back into last night’s preseason finale.
With fellow starting safety Stevie Brown out for the season with a torn ACL he suffered last week, Rolle wanted to get some in-game reps with his new wingman before the regular season opens on Sept. 8. So instead of sitting out the...Read more »
If you watched the Giants-Patriots highlights on SportsCenter on Friday morning, you probably saw a quick shot of Marvin Austin giving Tim Tebow a quick shove after one of the interceptions in the second half. In fact, in a two-minute span that I was watching, I saw that play twice.
And that’s what Austin wanted.
"Of course, [everyone is] trying to go out there, get you a sack and...Read more »
The next stop for Terrell Thomas is the regular season. At least he hopes it is.
The cornerback hasn’t made the team yet, but he feels confident that coming off of back-to-back ACL surgeries he has shown enough that he’ll be part of the 53-man roster when it is whittled down this weekend.
“I did everything they asked me to do,” Thomas said. “From day one of OTAs I’ve been out there,...Read more »
Da’rel Scott may have picked a great time to have a breakout performance, rushing for 25 yards on 4 carries, having a rushing touchdown overturned, and catching a 6-yard touchdown pass. But he refused to see it that way.
“That’s not good timing,” Scott said of the injury to Andre Brown that probably opened up opportunities for all of the running backs on the roster. “That’s one of our backs...Read more »
The Giants are going to dress like it’s 1999. Or they will at least twice this year.
The team will wear traditional white pants for the first time since 1999 in two home games this season: Nov. 10 against the Raiders and Nov. 24 against the Cowboys. The team showcased the new duds earlier this year but have only now announced the dates on which they will suit up in their alternate look instead...Read more »
We probably (and hopefully for Giants fans) won’t see much of rookie quarterback Ryan Nassib after tomorrow night’s preseason finale in which he’ll come off the bench immediately behind Eli Manning and likely see more snaps against the Patriots than he has during the entire preseason.
But just because we won’t see him doesn’t mean the Giants won’t. If Nassib does win the immediate backup job...Read more »
Undrafted rookie cornerback Charles James wasn’t worried about the first round of cuts last weekend. Part of that has to do with his philosophy about pressure following a near-fatal car accident five years ago, but part of that was because of how well he played in the preseason up until that point.
That doesn’t mean that the most recent cuts didn’t affect him, though.
“For me it was...Read more »
Tom Coughlin isn’t going to pull a Rex Ryan.
While the Giants coach will have his starters play the first series or so in Thursday’s preseason finale – 12-15 snaps he said – he will not expose any of them to further injury even if he doesn’t see what he wants to see from their limited time on the field.
“I would think the latter is the choice that I would make right here,” he said when...Read more »
