The Giants’ crisis at running back has been downgraded to a concern.

Both Andre Brown and Peyton Hillis were listed as limited participants in Wednesday’s practice, an indication that both had cleared the NFL’s concussion protocols and are on their way towards being available on Sunday against the Redskins.

The Giants didn’t have a full practice, just a jog-through. The injury report...

For 3rd year in a row, Brandon Jacobs' season ends at a career crossroads

Brandon Jacobs had surgery on his left knee yesterday, as doctors performed a cartilage graft to repair osteoarthritis in the joint. I’m not sure exactly what that entails, but it doesn’t sound like something that 31-year-old running backs bounce back from. It doesn’t seem that Jacobs has made any definite decisions about his future, but his NFL career has most likely come to an end.

Andre Brown wants a chance to see what he and David Wilson can do together

The Giants began the season believing that they had a dynamic one-two running back punch in Andre Brown and David Wilson. There was even a time in training camp in which the two were listed as co-starters and talk that they might be able to become an NFL rarity: two 1,000-yard rushers from the same backfield. But the season never materialized that way and, as it turned out, neither of them was ever...

After a dreadful 0-6 start, the Giants have won three games in a row and suddenly find their season very much alive in a wild NFC East.

But what’s changed about this team that not so long ago looked helpless?

During their 0-6 start, the Giants favored the pass by more than a 2-1 ratio. The offense attempted 233 passes (38.8 per game) and running backs had 113 carries (18.8...

Wrong kind of red zone for Victor Cruz

Red alert!

Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz returned to practice just as he said he would, but he did so wearing some unusual clothing. Instead of donning his normal white jersey with the number 80 on it and his name across the back, Cruz was wearing a red jersey, number 8, with no number. In other words, a non-contact jersey, the kind that quarterbacks typically wear. (This one in particular...

Andre Brown says he’d be “pretty close” to returning to the field if he were not on injured reserve with a designation to return.

The Giants running back fractured his leg in the preseason finale against the Patriots three weeks ago yesterday, and while he is still wearing a protective boot on his left foot he said the fracture itself has healed.

“I’ll get some more tests this week and...

Tom Coughlin gave the most optimistic three words yet on the status of Victor Cruz and Jason Pierre-Paul on Wednesday: “Full speed ahead.”

And yes, the two of them were practicing with the Giants on Wednesday in the first gameplan-specific workout of the season. Coughlin admitted that they might wind up being limited on the official injury report that comes out later, but he seemed convinced...

Da'rel Scott picks the right night to have a big game

Da’rel Scott may have picked a great time to have a breakout performance, rushing for 25 yards on 4 carries, having a rushing touchdown overturned, and catching a 6-yard touchdown pass. But he refused to see it that way.

“That’s not good timing,” Scott said of the injury to Andre Brown that probably opened up opportunities for all of the running backs on the roster. “That’s one of our backs...

Andre Brown knows what he’s in for this week.

“I know I can be in the doghouse when you fumble the ball, especially with Coach Coughlin, I know he’s going to be on me this week about holding onto the ball and my protection,” he said. “I mean, you know, I’m gonna look at it, learn from it, stay positive and make sure I go out here and be effective this week.”

Brown’s fumble in the second...
