The Giants’ evening practice today was closed to the public because of the Jets preseason opener being played at MetLife Stadium. But that didn’t stop more than a few Jets fans from rolling down their windows as they drove past the workout and shouting good tidings and support for Eli Manning. One guy kept yelling “You, Tuck! You, Tuck!” over and over again. I had to gently remind the fellow that...

Realizing how difficult it can be to keep up with every detail throughout the day, I’ll try to post a digest each night that lets you know what the most significant parts of training camp were so you can at least appear to be in tune with the team when you gather around the water cooler.

Here are the four most important things you need to know about what went down at Giants training camp today:

So, about that Will Beatty question?

Giants tackle Will Beatty drinks water during team

(Credit: James Escher)

Jason Pierre-Paul was asked about Will Beatty on Thursday.

Actually the question was never really asked. Beatty’s name was mentioned in what would have been a question but JPP cut it off and gave a long, rambling answer about the Giants’ presumed left tackle who has surprised (and maybe impressed) a lot of folks by being on the field for every practice in camp so far.Anyway, here’s what JPP...

Five things to watch as Giants begin OTAs Wednesday

Don’t think the first day of OTAs is important? Let’s go back to last year’s and see what kind of tone the opening of team workouts set for the rest of the season.

We all went into the start of OTAs in 2013 thinking the big story would be the absence of Victor Cruz. Well, it turned out that the real issue was the absence of Hakeem Nicks, who had been working with the team throughout the offseason...

Adrien Robinson says it's not too late to live up to draft day promise

Adrien Robinson believes there is still time to live up to the description Jerry Reese saddled him with on the day he was drafted just over two years ago.

“At the time, I didn’t think much of it, people kept talking about it,” Robinson said last week when talk once again resurfaced of his being introduced to Giants fans as “the JPP of tight ends.” This was at a time when Jason Pierre-Paul...

INDIANAPOLIS – We’re here at the NFL Scouting Combine to talk about the future players, but inevitably when coaches come to the podium questions turn to the players already on the roster. Particularly the ones who are coming off of injuries or heading into free agency. So here’s a roundup of the current Giants that Tom Coughlin spoke about on Friday:

ELI MANNING

“We’re very confident...

No surgery needed for JPP, who says he will 'never shut it down'

Jason Pierre-Paul rushes during a game against the

(Credit: Getty)

Jason Pierre-Paul said he will not “shut it down” this season because of the injured right shoulder that has kept him out of the last two games, but that may just be semantics because the defensive end seems unlikely to play again this season. A second-opinion on the injury showed no need for surgery, only rest, and with just three games remaining there may not be time for him to heal enough to...

JPP doesn't want to look 'stupid' going on IR if Giants make playoffs

As long as there is hope for the Giants to make the playoffs, there will be hope that Jason Pierre-Paul returns to the field.

“If I can finish the season, I will,” the defensive end said of playing through the shoulder injury that sidelined him last Sunday. “I will continue to rehab because you never know what might happen. We win out, there’s a possibility we can get in. Who knows? If I shut...

Hakeem Nicks looks unencumbered in practice

Hakeem Nicks was showing no lingering effects of the abdominal injury that sidelined him last week. The wide receiver was catching fade passes from the quarterbacks during warmups in today’s practice, stretching high for the football in a move that would seem to be impossible (or at least uncomfortable) with any kind of serious strain to the midsection.

Nicks seemed happy to be on the field....

JPP, Nicks on sideline as Giants begin prep for Cowboys

JPP said there will be blood on Sunday. But will there be JPP?

Probably, but it’s worth noting that the defensive end was not practicing with the Giants on Wednesday, recovering from the shoulder injury that kept him out of most of last week’s workouts. Tom Coughlin did not seem too concerned about JPP’s absence today, saying that he was just sore, but it’s something to monitor this week.
