As we’ve seen in the past, a good week of practice is not guaranteed to transfer over to the game on Sunday. But today’s practice, many players agreed, had a little more spark and energy and fire than just a regular Wednesday workout. Dan Connor signed a one-year contract with the Giants. It turned out to be a one-game deal.
The starting middle linebacker who left Sunday’s opener with a burner just before halftime was placed on season-ending injured reserve today. Connor also suffered a burner against the Patriots in the preseason finale.

Sometimes Giants fans forget that players had lives and hopes and dreams before they arrived with the team. So when they look at Mark Herzlich they see him as a linebacker entering his third year. Mark Herzlich said he feels like a starter. After a rookie year in which he got a two-game taste of the job before getting injured and a 2012 season in which he was a backup to Chase Blackburn, he feels ready to step into the middle linebacker job.
