Hakeem Nicks had been limited in the last few practices with a groin injury, but Thursday was the first time he missed practice completely. The star receiver was on the sideline for the entire workout, sitting on but not necessarily pedaling an exercise bike, wearing a baseball cap and no shoulder pads.

There was a new sound at practice today. The pop of plastic rang through the crisp summer air as the Giants dressed in shoulder pads for the first time since their 2012 season ended on Dec. 30. And there was much rejoicing.
