The Giants had a good practice today.

Big deal. Congratulations. The Giants are still undefeated from Monday through Saturday.

As we’ve seen in the past few weeks, their good practices aren’t translating to the games on Sunday. And no one seems to understand why.

“We’re just not getting anything done on gameday,” Prince Amukamara said. “There’s really no secret recipe. It seems...

Frustrated Eli finding solace at home

Giants quarterback Eli Manning tries to escape the

Eli Manning has never had an 0-3 start to a season and he probably hasn’t had a string of three games like these past ones since deep back in his career. But there is something that has changed in Manning’s life since then that helps him cope with the struggles, and it has nothing to do with the two Super Bowl MVPs that he can always point to.

It’s his family. His wife and two daughters.

“Obviously...

Giants focused on fixing their own problems

One of the first things Tom Coughlin said about the Carolina Panthers on Wednesday was that “they do not beat themselves.”

No one would say the same about the Giants. That’s why this week is not so much about who the Giants are playing or the danger of falling to 0-3. Coughlin’s introduction of the opponent this week should have included a snapshot of his own team.

“We gotta get our...

Giants say 'we've done it before' ... but who is 'we'?

Tom Coughlin pointed it out almost immediately following Sunday’s loss.

“We’ve been 0-2 before, we’ve dug ourselves into a hole before, and been able to fight our way out of it,” he said. “And we did it with ‘team.’”

It is true. In 2007 the Giants started the season with two straight losses and then rallied to win the Super Bowl. Maybe this team will do that, too. Probably it won’t....

Kevin Gilbride says young running backs mostly at fault on screen interceptions

Kevin Gilbride said the two interceptions on screen passes Sunday against the Cowboys were “two completely different” plays. They did have one common component, though: an inexperienced running back who made a bad adjustment.

“One was a play action screen,” the offensive coordinator said today, “and you hope that the defensive end (DeMarcus Ware) goes one way, while he ended up coming underneath....

Justin Tuck makes the case for Eli over Peyton Manning

Justin Tuck doesn’t get to decide which quarterback he’d rather have playing on his team. But if he did, he’d choose the one he has now.

“Eli has been in the league less years and has more Super Bowls,” Tuck said when asked to decide – hypothetically – between Eli and Peyton Manning. “That makes him the quarterback I’m going to go with.”

What he didn’t say, though, is that Eli is “better”...

Eli and Peyton Manning were both concerned they might never face each other again

Eli Manning will face his older brother for the third time in their NFL careers on Sunday, but it wasn’t too long ago that neither was sure they would be able to do so.

Eli said in his weekly WFAN interview that there were thoughts even inside the family that Peyton’s career was over due to the injuries and surgeries in his neck.

“I think there was definitely some concern after the number...

Ryan Nassib wants to make an impression, then start working on his impressions

Giants quarterback Ryan Nassib (9) looks to throw

(Credit: AP)

We probably (and hopefully for Giants fans) won’t see much of rookie quarterback Ryan Nassib after tomorrow night’s preseason finale in which he’ll come off the bench immediately behind Eli Manning and likely see more snaps against the Patriots than he has during the entire preseason.

But just because we won’t see him doesn’t mean the Giants won’t. If Nassib does win the immediate backup job...

Eli can't remember past preseason troubles, but that doesn't mean he's not concerned this year

Most reporters who have been around the Giants for the last several years have written the same story at some point. Eli Manning is struggling in the preseason and it’s a source of concern as the regular season approaches. It’s a familiar and yet somewhat vague storyline. I mean, I know I’ve written it. But how did those out-of-rhythm preseasons translate in the regular season? I can’t really recall.

Neither...

Practice report: Cordle at center, Thomas to play, Hardy caps camp

Well, training camp 2013 is in the books. The team breaks camp Wednesday and when they arrive for work Thursday, things will be vastly different. Wait, what? They won’t be? Oh. Nevermind then.

The last day of training camp used to be ceremonious, with the Mayor of Albany coming to wave goodbye and the players jumping in their cars for the drive down the Thruway. The Albany 500, we called it....
