It might have been the least surprising development in Victor Cruz's breakout season as a receiver and salsa dancer: Earlier this week, the Giants' second-year sensation got an offer to appear on "Dancing With the Stars."

"I kind of knew it was coming, but you don't really know until it comes," he said Friday.

Some teammates saw it coming, too. "Man, I told him that; I knew it!" rookie receiver Jerrel Jernigan said.

"When he did that salsa the first time, I was like, 'Man, you're going to be on "Dancing With the Stars'' with that.' That's awesome."

Alas, not as awesome as it might have been. Cruz said he turned down the opportunity. "I just want to be focused on football and focused on what's to come,'' he said, "and I'm just not at the point in my career where I feel like I need to do that."

Cruz said he might rethink his position if invited again in the future, and believes he would succeed.

"I think I'd be all right," he said. "You have to practice like 20 hours a week, so any time you practice that much, you really should be pretty good."

Does he have any moves other than the salsa? "I've got a little bit of rhythm," he said. "I don't know how good I'd be at the tango, but I think if I was to do it, I think I'd be all right."
