Parcells: I'd take LT to start a franchise
Bill Parcells was posed an interesting question on a conference call Wednesday in advance of his Hall of Fame induction next month in Canton: If you could pick any player in NFL history to start your franchise with, who'd it be?
"There are priority positions in this game, and I think quarterback is one of those, but if you're pinning me down, I'm a little prejudiced," the former Giants, Jets, Patriots and Cowboys coach said. "I think I'd take Lawrence Taylor."
Small wonder. Parcells won two Super Bowl championships in large part because Taylor was such a dominant force on defense during his run with the Giants.
"I know he's going to be there every Sunday and try his best to win the game, for sure," he said. "But I'm very prejudiced."
Taylor starred for the Giants from 1981-93 and retired as the team's all-time leader with 132 1/2 sacks. That mark was surpassed by Michael Strahan (141 1/2).
