Bills promote Whaley to GM spot

In a move that was widely anticipated in the wake of Bills general manager Buddy Nix's decision to step down on Tuesday, the team today appointed Doug Whaley as the new GM.

The succession plan has been in place for quite some time. The Bills hired Whaley in 2010 as assistant general manager with an eye toward taking over the top spot once Nix retired.

Whaley has been in the NFL since 1995 as a scout and player personnel executive. He was with the Seahawks and Steelers before joining the Bills.
