Miguel Maysonet makes NFL preseason debut with Cleveland Browns
It wasn't flashy by any means, but Miguel Maysonet's NFL preseason debut was certainly solid.
The Riverhead native and Stony Brook alum appeared in the second half of the Cleveland Browns' 27-19 home win over the St. Louis Rams Friday night.
Maysonet carried the ball nine times for 25 yards and had two catches for 13 yards, including a 10-yard grab in the third quarter. He was the team's second-leading rusher behind Brandon Jackson (11 carries, 32 yards).
Maysonet starred at Riverhead High School, where he won the 2008 Hansen award as Suffolk's most outstanding football player. He tallied 5,963 rushing yards -- second-highest in Long Island history -- and 74 rushing touchdowns from 2005-08. He then went on to have a prolific college career, rushing for 5,110 yards in four years with Hofstra and Stony Brook.
Maysonet went undrafted in the 2013 NFL Draft last April, but was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles moments after the draft concluded. The Eagles waived him before minicamp, but the Browns claimed him. Here's a look at how Maysonet is approaching his experience in Cleveland.
The Browns will host the Detroit Lions in their next preseason game on Thursday, Aug. 15.
