Mike Wallace holdout ending soon?

Could the Mike Wallace holdout in Pittsburgh be about to end?

The Steelers’ star wide receiver, who has held out all 23 days of training camp so far, may be about to report, according to those who know him best.

“There’s a little buzz around the team that he’ll be coming back pretty soon,” wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders said, per Mike Bires of the Beaver County Times. “I don’t know the exact date, but it’s looking pretty good.”

The Steelers are hoping Wallace shows up in time to work off some of the rust from the holdout before the Steelers open the season.

“I haven’t heard anything factual or anything that sounds solid, so we’ll continue to coach the guys who are here,” offensive coordinator Todd Haley said. “But I am looking forward to seeing him, hopefully soon rather than later.

“I am familiar with his skill set, which is pretty impressive. So I would think we’d tailor (the offense) to his skills early on and ease him into it. You want a guy like that involved as much as you can because he is a difference maker.”

Wallace has yet to sign his $2.7 million contract tender that the Steelers extended to him in the off-season. He’s hoping to earn a long-term deal, however.

“There’s light at the end of the tunnel … for the end of training camp and for Mike coming back,” Sanders said. “The puzzle is starting to come together. It’s going to be a great thing. We all know Mike takes the top off the defense. He stretches the field with his speed. He allows me and Antonio (Brown) to get (open) underneath. We’re excited about having him back. He’s a great asset to our receiver corps, and he’s a great asset to this team.”
