Newsday's Bob Glauber goes the extra yard for the inside scoop on the NFL.
As if Chip Kelly's offense wasn't explosive enough, the Eagles' coach gets another toy to use in his up-tempo scheme. The Eagles traded for the Saints' speedy and versatile running back, Darren Sproles, who now teams with LeSean McCoy in what figures to be the most electrifying backfield in the NFL.
The Saints had been expected to release Sproles because of salary cap issues, but they...Read more »
The Darrelle Revis era in Tampa is over after less than one full calendar year.
Revis, traded last April to the Bucs in exchange for first- and fourth-round picks, has been released by the Bucs. The team had shopped him in a trade, but Revis' unwillingness to renegotiate his $16 million-a-year salary meant the Bucs found no suitors.
Revis is now free to strike his own deal,...Read more »
Chip Kelly has done a brilliant job in his first season in Philly, and he might wind up as Coach of the Year.
Where he once was thought to favor a pass-heavy attack, Kelly's Eagles actually lead the NFL in rushing with a 161.9-yard average. Tailback LeSean McCoy is having a career year with 2,012 scrimmage yards, including a league-best 1,476 rushing yards. And quarterback Nick Foles has executed...Read more »

Calvin Johnson's numbers are just off the charts. In his past six games, the Lions' All-Pro receiver has 962 receiving yards, the most in NFL history in a six-game span. Since 2011, he leads the NFL with 4,944 receiving yards and 115 yards per game. Oh, and he's playing with a bad knee that has limited some of his practice time in recent weeks.

The Packers will be without All Pro quarterback Aaron Rodgers for at least the next month as he recovers from a broken collarbone he suffered against the Bears last week. That means there's plenty of pressure on backup quarterback Seneca Wallace, but perhaps even more on rookie running back Eddie Lacy. After all, the Packers figure to put much more of an emphasis on the running game.

The no-huddle offense may be very popular in the NFL, but it’s certainly not new.
In the 1980s, Sam Wyche introduced a hurry-up scheme to the NFL as head coach of the Bengals, and took it all the way to within a few minutes of a Super Bowl title. But there was a speed bump, so to speak, to his speedy offense along that road.
Like a good TV announcer, I’ll just get out of the way and...Read more »
Adrian Peterson is hoping to become the first player in NFL history with back-to-back 2,000-yard rushing seasons, but he has plenty of catching up to do if he wants to get there. Peterson has 281 yards through three games, and will need to average 132.2 yards per game to reach 2,000.
Meanwhile, LeSean McCoy of the Eagles is not only on pace to reach 2,000 yards, but he’s on track to set the...Read more »
Ok, you want a stat that pops off the page in the early going of the NFL season? It's this: After two games, the Jets - yes, the Jets - have run more plays than the Eagles.
That's right. A Jets' offense with rookie Geno Smith at the controls has reeled off 144 plays, the fourth highest total in the NFL. The Eagles? They rank eighth with 135.
Now, that's a reasonable number...Read more »
