May is the time of year when the warming sun lures everyone outdoors. May is also National Burger Month. What, then, could be more apropos than eating a burger al fresco?

Here are three places to catch a breeze and bite into a burger.

ALL AMERICAN HAMBURGER: Classic fast-food burgers, hand-cut fries and thick shakes are the order at this much-beloved stand. Sun lovers will find nine outdoor tables -- no umbrellas, though. (4286 Merrick Rd., Massapequa, 516-798-9574)

DOWNTOWN BURGER AT FIVE POINTS CAFE: Imaginatively topped burgers and fine milkshakes keep this Sayville downtowner hopping. You'll find seating outdoors at eight tables in the courtyard, six with umbrellas, and, also, along the side of the building, at five tables under an overhang. (1 Main St., Sayville, 631-567-5655)

BAY BURGER: Everything chef-owner Joe Tremblay serves is "from scratch," right down to the burger buns. Try a juicy hand-shaped burger with the works. There's also a commendable veggie burger. House-made ice cream, too. Seating is out front at three umbrella tables; there are also four tables on the patio. (1742 Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Tpke., Sag Harbor, 631-899-3915)
