FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - Cornerback Dee Milliner, the Jets' first-round draft pick, said after practice Monday that he feels "great" and does not expect what had been a sore left calf to keep him out of Sunday's opener against the Buccaneers. "I'm very excited to get back out there on the field," he said. "I was out there and had no problems with it all day."
Milliner is expected to start opposite Antonio Cromartie, but he had not heard for sure as of Monday afternoon. "I always leave that to the coaching staff," he said. "Whatever decision they make, I'll be prepared for."
Last year's first-round pick, linebacker Quinton Coples, is not expected back from a right ankle injury by Sunday.
Rex gets to just be Dad
Rex Ryan spent Saturday night in Clemson, S.C., where his son Seth, a freshman walk-on wide receiver, was on the sideline for a game against Georgia.
That meant he was not in Florham Park, where the Jets announced their final cuts. So does that mean he was unable to speak to the players they were releasing, as per NFL custom?
Ryan said most of the Jets' roster moves were made Friday and that he spoke with most of the affected players.
"It was great," Ryan said of the visit to Clemson. "I just played Dad there for a day."
He's mighty Quinn to Lee
Jets quarterback coach David Lee might have had something to do with signing Brady Quinn, based on what he told the Denver Post in August 2011. "I'm going to tell you this right now: Brady Quinn has a stronger arm than both the Manning brothers," Lee said. "No question. I worked them all out."
Quinn did not throw a pass for the Broncos that regular season.
Bengals take McElroy
The Jets reached an injury settlement with their former quarterback, Greg McElroy, whom the Bengals then signed to their practice squad.
