Giants vs. Jets: 5 things to look for
1. CAN THE GIANTS' STARTING 'O' CLICK?
It's been a miserable preseason for Eli Manning and his presumed starters as they adapt to a new West Coast offense. We'll find out tonight if last week's performance against the Colts was rock bottom or if there are deeper depths to plumb.
2. WHAT CAN WE EXPECT TO SEE FROM MICHAEL VICK?
The answer is: absolutely anything. The veteran QB can make plays with his arm and his feet -- so it'll be interesting to see how the Giants will try to contain him. Though the incumbent Geno Smith is expected to play the first half and into the third, Vick will be looking to prove he's still got it.
3. WILL THE GIANTS SHUFFLE THE LINE?
They've been itching to get rookie Weston Richburg snaps with the starters and have experimented this week by moving Justin Pugh and Geoff Schwartz to different positions at times in practice. Now they can test those permutations against the Jets.
4. WILL ANOTHER OUTSIDE RECEIVER EMERGE FOR THE JETS?
Eric Decker and slot man Jeremy Kerley are locks to start in Week 1, but it's still unclear who will start opposite Decker. Will it be David Nelson (who has experience in the offense), Greg Salas (who's opened eyes in camp) or Stephen Hill (who possesses all the physical attributes you'd want in a deep threat)?
5. A TIEBREAKER
The Giants have an 8-4 record against the Jets in the regular season while the Jets have a 24-20-1 mark against the Giants in the preseason. Add them up and the teams are 28-28-1 in the 57 times they have stepped onto the same field. What's more, Tom Coughlin is 6-6 in career games against the Jets while Rex Ryan is 3-3 against the Giants.
