The NFL on Thursday released the preseason schedule for all 32 teams, and for the second time in three years, the Jets will open exhibition play in Detroit.

After their Motor City showdown with the Lions, the Jets will face the Falcons at home in Week 2 of the preseason. Atlanta's new coach is Dan Quinn, who was a top contender during the Jets' coaching search in January. Owner Woody Johnson eventually hired Todd Bowles, who also has New Jersey ties and a strong defensive mind.

For the 47th consecutive year, the Jets and Giants will meet in the preseason. Last summer, the Giants defeated the Jets, 35-24. The two in-stadium rivals will again square off in Week 3 of the preseason with the Giants being the home team at MetLife Stadium.

As they have done since 2001, the Jets will close out the preseason with a home game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
