FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - The Hatfields and McCoys are at it again.
Rex Ryan said Monday that he felt disrespected by the Patriots' decision to throw a deep pass intended for Randy Moss with 30 seconds left in the Jets' 31-14 loss Sunday. On third-and-6 from the Patriots' 45-yard line and up by 17 points, Tom Brady hurled a pass about 30 yards in the air in Moss' direction down the left sideline.
Darrelle Revis was locked up on Moss, who finished with 34 yards and a touchdown on five catches, and the pass fell harmlessly incomplete.
Asked if he thought it was disrespectful, Ryan said: "Yes, but that's why I called the timeout at the end of the game - give our team another chance. It was surprising. Again, things happen. [Bill] Belichick, I don't even know how much he had to do with it more than that might have been something that Brady or Moss wanted to do. We need to stop them anyway, so it's no biggie. But I was surprised. I did feel a little bit disrespected."
Source: 49ers drop charge
A source confirmed to Newsday last night that the San Francisco 49ers have dropped tampering charges against the Jets regarding former holdout wide receiver Michael Crabtree. The Jets maintained they never tampered with Crabtree, whom Deion Sanders said had at least two teams willing to offer the former Texas Tech star the lucrative contract he was looking for. San Francisco owner Jed York indicated last month he thought there was some clear evidence the Jets were guilty of tampering.
The Jets declined to comment on the charge being dropped.
Extra points
CB Donald Strickland has a concussion and his availability for Sunday's game against Carolina is up in the air . . . CB Dwight Lowery has a high ankle sprain and is out this week, so there's a good possibility that Lito Sheppard will move back into the starting lineup Sunday.
