Braylon Edwards sends video message to fans
CORTLAND -- The beard is back ...for a third time.
As expected, Braylon Edwards officially is a Jet again. The team announced the signing in a release -- and using an Instagram video message.
"Hey, Jets fans. It's Braylon Edwards, back in the green and white. Signing day. So I'm excited and ready to get going in Cortland," the veteran wide receiver says to the camera.
Edwards underwent a physical at the Jets' facility Wednesday, a source confirmed to Newsday, setting the stage for another reunion. His first stint with the Jets began in 2009 and concluded with two consecutive AFC Championship Game appearances. The team chose not to re-sign him after the 2010 season, but claimed him off waivers from the Seahawks last December, and he caught 10 passes for 125 yards in three games.
Edwards has 359 catches for an average of 15.4 yards and 40 touchdowns in eight seasons. His production has declined since 2010, when he averaged 17.1 yards and had seven TDs, but his leadership and experience with embattled quarterback Mark Sanchez will help a receiving corps that will begin training camp without Santonio Holmes (PUP - foot surgery).
The Jets also officially announced the signing of first-round pick Sheldon Richardson and fellow defensive lineman Leger Douzable.
