Browns ask permission to talk to Gamble

The Jets have identified their top target -- but now owner Woody Johnson has to fight off other suitors. The Browns have requested permission from the 49ers to interview Tom Gamble, according to ESPN's NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Gamble, the Niners' director of player personnel, is high on the Jets' list -- and it appears the San Francisco exec is just as intrigued about working under Johnson.

Gamble was a quality control coach for the Jets between 1995-96, and has history with Rex Ryan: Gamble has known the Jets coach for more than 20 years, having worked in the Eagles organization under Ryan's father, Buddy.

Gamble has already cancelled his second interview with the Jagaurs. But it remains to be seen if he'll meet with the Browns too.
