Chris Ivory: No. 1 RB is just 'a label'
Every running back wants to be the No. 1 guy, said Chris Ivory.
But he insisted Thursday that he’s not upset third-year back Bilal Powell was selected to start Sunday’s game against Tampa Bay over him
“At the end of the day, both of you guys are going to be on the field performing every day. No. 1 is just a label,” he said. “Bilal’s a great running back. And right now, that’s where we stand. But we’re still going to get an even amount of carries.”
Ivory, who signed a three-year deal with the Jets in April, was sidelined with a hamstring injury for most of training camp. And while he didn’t want to blame his injury for losing out to Powell, Ivory admitted: “I was a little rusty starting off.
“Those guys had a little jumpstart and they kind of got used to the scheme a little earlier than I did," added the former Saint, who is in his fourth year in the league. “I came in a couple weeks later. So I think now, I feel like I’m a little more caught up to speed and more familiar with the offense. So this week, I felt great.”
