Chris Johnson not happy about Greene signing
It's been a week since Shonn Greene chose to sign with Tennessee, but there's one Titan who's not happy about his arrival.
The Titans' No. 1 running back doesn't understand why his front office signedGreene to a three-year, $10 million contract.
"I have never been a big fan of the two-back system, so I don’t know how we plan on using him," Johnson told the Tennessean. "I’m not afraid of competition, but I was thinking we’d maybe get a draft pick for the other back. And you don’t give a guy that kind of money to be just a goal-line guy and in tough-yardage situations. So we’ll see what happens."
"I’ll just roll with it. Of course I don’t want to carry the ball 30 or 40 times a game," said Johnson. "And I don’t mind a guy getting a carry or two. But if I am the main guy and it is supposed to be my team...it shouldn’t be an issue."
Greene recently said he understands Johnson is in the main running back and just wants to contribute in the Titans' backfield.
“We haven’t really gotten into percentages or anything like that, but one thing they did tell me was they don’t look at me having just one role,” the former Jets running back said this week on Nashville’s 104.5FM. “They are going to be giving me carries here and there. They haven’t told me any number or anything like that, but I think it’s going to be more of a feel thing. I’m not going to be limited to just goal line or short yardage.”
Titans coach Mike Munchak confirmed that, telling FOXSports.com that Greene can play on all three downs.
