One of Geno Smith’s advisers told USA Today SPORTS Wednesday that the rookie quarterback will decide on an agent upon his return from the NFLPA’s Rookie Premiere in Los Angeles this weekend.

“He's looking to make his decision soon," said former NFL and West Virginia stud John Thornton, who is a trusted confidant of Smith’s, along with Charles Fisher. “He's trying to do his due diligence on each firm he's interviewed.”

Smith’s Instagram photo of him posing alongside Jay-Z fueled rumors that the Jets rookie was close to signing with Roc Nation. The Hip Hop mogul is not NFLPA certified, but he works with CAA.

In all, there are five firms seeking to represent Smith.

“He doesn't have anybody doing anything right now,” Thornton said. “It's just us really trying to help him navigate through it. He won't sign anything until he's ready."

Smith is one of three Jets’ draft picks that have yet to sign their rookie contracts. The others are first-round selections, Dee Milliner and Sheldon Richardson.
