Glazer: Jets 'can’t give' GM job away
The Jets hired a high-priced headhunting agency to help them find the right man for their vacant general manager job. But according to FOX's Jay Glazer, no one wants the position.
"The New York Jets, we gotta talk about the Jets a little bit," Glazer said on-air Sunday. "The New York Jets are looking for a general manager. They can't give the position away. They're now calling back candidates who have already turned them down, saying 'Please reconsider.' They're having a hard time finding a GM."
The Jets’ new GM will inherit a myriad of issues. Not only is the team’s quarterback situation shaky, but there’s also the issue of their salary cap situation. The new GM also will have to work with current coach Rex Ryan, thanks to the parameters set by owner Woody Johnson.
A number of candidates have already emerged, including former Bears GM Jerry Angelo, who reportedly is a “name to watch.” But according to ESPNNewYork.com, Packers exec Russ Ball and CFL GM Jim Popp have, in fact, not interviewed with the team.
Glazer tweeted he thinks the Jets will hire a GM quickly, adding that they have been "getting rebuffed a lot." He also said Ryan hasn't necessarily been the deterrent in the GM search. Instead, Glazer tweeted, "their cap situation, personnel, QB and the circus turned a lot of candidates off."
