Hill, Keller and Po'uha won't practice (again)
Stop me if you've heard this before: Dustin Keller and Stephen Hill won't practice today.
The pair – which didn’t play in Sunday’s embarrassing 34-0 loss to the 49ers – will miss their second straight day of practice this week, said Rex Ryan.
Despite losing Santonio Holmes to a season-ending foot injury, the Jets coach remains confident (at least publicly) about his remaining offensive weapons. But part of that optimism is fueled by his expectations of getting Hill back on the field somewhat soon.
The rookie wideout said Wednesday that his hamstring feels much better than it did last week. Asked if he think he’ll suit up for Monday night’s game against Houston, Hill told reporters: “I always feel like I can play, it all depends on how I feel.”
But first, he must make it to the practice field …. and it remains to be seen when that will happen.
“I don’t expect them to practice,” Ryan said of both Hill and Keller, who also has a hamstring injury.
Also troubling is the fact that Sione Po’uha is expected to miss his second straight practice with a lower back injury. The Jets nose tackle has been dealing with a stiff back since training camp. An MRI exam in August revealed no damage, according to Po’uha.
But Ryan wouldn’t declare Sione has had a setback.
“Well no, I just think that you play as many snaps as he did and obviously, that’s something we’ll stay on top of,” the coach said. “He’s been battling that all season, really.”
LB Bart Scott (toe), FB John Conner (hamstring) and LB Bryan Thomas (hamstring) also will not practice Thursday.
S Eric Smith (hip, knee) is expected to be limited, and the following players should practice fully: CB Antonio Cromartie (shoulder), LB Nick Bellore (shoulder), QB Mark Sanchez (low back), C Nick Mangold (wrist), LB Calvin Pace (Achilles), DL Mike DeVito (calf), RG Brandon Moore (hip), S LaRon Landry (heel), LG Matt Slauson (knee), RT Austin Howard (back), WR Jeremy Kerley (finger), S Josh Bush (shoulder), S Yeremiah Bell (shoulder) and TE Jeff Cumberland (ribs).
