Jets get Tebow's take on Demps

CORTLAND -- The Jets didnt waste time pumping Tim Tebow for information on Jeff Demps.

The Jets are one of several teams who expressed interest in Demps -- a former teammate of Tebow's at Florida and an Olympic track star -- and they quickly got Tebow's take on the former Gator.

"Yeah, they asked me about him," Tebow said after Thursday's final practice in Cortland. "Jeff is a great guy and a great player. He's someone that I was proud to play with in college, and (he) did a great job for us. I feel like wherever he goes, he'll work hard at it and do a good job for that team."

The obvious question, of course, is this: Has Tebow given Demps the hard sell on the Jets yet?

One might assume yes, but the backup quarterback said no.

"I talk to him as a friend," Tebow said of Demps, who recently won a silver medal at the London Olympics as a member of the U.S. men's 4x100 relay team. "The Jets are a great organization and a great place.

"Would we love to have him? Absolutely," he continued. "I would as a teammate, just because I know how hard he works and what he can bring to the table."

Demps, a former running back, totaled 2,470 yards and 23 touchdown during his four-year career at Florida. He finished his senior season with 569 yards and six touchdowns (98 carries).

His agent, Daniel Rose, said on Wednesday the Jets are one of several teams interested in the Olympic sprinter -- and a deal likely would be struck within 24 hours.
