The Jets kicking competition rages on -- without Billy Cundiff.

The team announced Tuesday morning that they have released Cundiff and signed former Pro Bowl kicker Dan Carpenter.

The Jets signed Cundiff last month to compete with incumbent Nick Folk during training camp. Cundiff hit all three of his field-goal attempts this preseason (30, 26 and 32 yards) as well as all four extra points.

The Jets defeated the Giants in Saturday's MetLife Bowl thanks to Cundiff's game-winning 32-yard field goal with 8:04 left in overtime.

Carpenter -- who was signed last week by Arizona to compete with ex-Jet/Giant Jay Feely -- was released by the Cardinals Sunday after just one practice and one preseason game, in which his 26-yard field-goal attempt was blocked in a loss to San Diego.

Carpenter, who played for the Dolphins from 2008-2012, was named to the AFC Pro Bowl team in 2009, has hit 127 of 155 career regular-season field goals (81.9%).

He was released from the Dolphins on Aug. 14 and signed a week later by the Cardinals.
