Tom Gamble, the 49ers' director of player personnel, interviewed Tuesday for the Jaguars vacant GM opening. His next stop? The Jets.

Gamble will meet with owner Woody Johnson this weekend,  according to Matt Maiocco of Comcast SportsNet (Bay area).

With the help of a high-priced headhunting agency, Johnson has keyed in on several choices. In addition to Gamble, the Jets have requested permission to interview Falcons director of player personnel Dave Caldwell and Marc Ross of the Giants. They also have an interview lined up with former Browns GM Tom Heckert, who was fired Monday along with coach Pat Shurmur.

The assumption was that Johnson would not address reporters until he had his new GM in place. But with interviews not scheduled to begin until Friday, it's highly unlikely a candidate will be selected before Tuesday's season-end press conference.
