Pot arrest prompts Jets to waive two

The Jets waived Claude Davis and Cliff Harris a day after the pair was arrested for possession of marijuana on April 29, according to a release obtained from the Morristown Police Department.

The two players, who were signed to futures contracts in January, were arrested at 9:21 p.m. last Monday after a Morristown officer noticed the interior of the rented 2013 Chevy Tahoe SUV they were in was “filled with smoke.”

Harris, 22, and Davis, 23, were both charged with possession of marijuana and were released after being served with a summons complaint.

A third passenger – Daniel Godfrey, 21 – was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, possession of a weapon (a loaded handgun “with a single hollow-point round"), unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of weapon during a CDS crime, manufacturing of CDS, and distribution of CDS within 500 feet of public housing.

According to the release, Godrey was held at Morris County Correctional Facility in default of $50,000 bail.

This isn’t Harris’ first run-in with the law.

The 5-11 cornerback was booted from Oregon’s football program for violation of team rules back in 2011, including a citation for marijuana possession on November 25, 2011.

Harris and Davis were waived by the Jets on April 30.
