Former Jaguars quarterback David Garrard worked out for the Jets Thursday.

Though the 35-year-old last played for Jacksonville in 2010, it sounds as if his workout went well.

Garrard signed as a backup with the Miami Dolphins in March 2012, but was forced to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in August. He subsequently was cut by the team less than a month later.

The Jets front office has made it clear there will be a quarterback competition in training camp, involving, at least, Mark Sanchez, Greg McElroy and Matt Simms. The team is expected to bring in two additional QBs this offseason. The Jets also have been mentioned as a potential landing spot for Chiefs QB Brady Quinn.

Garrard – who initially was drafted by the Jags in 2002 to be Mark Brunell’s successor – spent nine seasons in Jacksonville. During his time there, he threw for 16,003 yards, 89 touchdowns and 54 interceptions. After the Jags drafted Blaine Gabbert in 2011, Garrard was released five months later. He took the 2011-2012 season off in order to recover from surgery on a herniated disk and signed with the Dolphins last offseason.

Garrard, an East Orange, N.J. native, also made the Pro Bowl in 2009 and was awarded the Ed Block Courage award in 2004.

The Jets also worked out AFL defensive back Eric Crocker.

His agent, Donte Robinson, tweeted the news Thursday: “ S/o to my client @InstaCROCKY with his workout with the new York jets this morning....do work.....”

Crocker is a San Antonio Talons teammate of G.J. Kinne, who was signed by the Jets as a UDFA last offseason.
