Cantankerous Joe Namath is back at it, criticizing his old team for its penchant for generating more headlines than touchdowns in the preseason. The Jets’ Hall of Fame quarterback fired his latest broadside during an interview Wednesday with NFL.com’s Adam Schein on Sirius XM Blitz.

“I’m concerned with how the Jets are trying to build a team and win a championship,” Namath said, taking the words out of the mouths of many fans. “They seem more interested in headlines.”

Although Namath gave the Jets a shot to win nine or 10 games because of its defense, he questioned the notion of basing much of their offensive strategy around developing a “Wildcat” attack around the run-first talents of backup QB Tim Tebow.

“The only reason to run the ‘wildcat’ is if your offense isn’t working,” said Namath, who previously described the trade for Tebow as a “publicity stunt.”

Of course, the Jets are the only NFL team that has failed to score a touchdown through three preseason games, and they have kept the “Wildcat” under wraps throughout the preseason. Namath might have said some off-the-wall things in the past about the Jets, but in this instance, he’s preaching to the choir of Jets fans.
