Stop me if you've heard this before: The Jets have A LOT of holes to fill on this roster.

For that reason, ESPN’s NFL draft guru Mel Kiper, Jr. still believes the Jets should select based on overall talent, rather than needs. But when it comes to Rex Ryan, as Kiper pointed out, “the pass rusher is necessary.”

Kiper sees Barkevious Mingo as a good fit for the Jets, if the LSU defensive end is still available at No. 9. Kiper also likes Stanford tight end Zach Ertz for the Jets in the second round (No. 39 overall).

“They've taken some hits, they’ve got a lot of holes, they've got a ton of areas of need,” the ESPN analyst said this week in a conference call. “You worry about filling needs -- just take the best player. If you've got so many need areas, you can take the best player on the board and don't force anything.”

NFL Network's draft expert Mike Mayock has the Jets selecting former Oregon OLB/DE Dion Jordan with the ninth overall pick. So where's Mingo on Mayock's mock draft? Going to the Tennessee Titans one pick later at No. 10.
