Before the Jets acquired LaRon Landry, Ryan said he sought the advice of another coach who was familiar with the physical safety.

"Everybody in the league knows about him," Ryan said of the former Redskin. "He's an impact player. But (the other coach goes), 'He might not be able to practice every day but when he's out there in a game, he's probably the best player on the field.'

"That's kind of how he plays. He's a tremendous football player. But we had so much confidence in our medical department, that we felt that (despite) the risks, if we got a hold of him, that he could be successful."

And it appears the "pitch-count" method is working for Landry.

"He's done everything we've expected from him," said Ryan. "And we feel really good about where he is right now."
