And the start goes to Mark Sanchez. Again.

A day after head coach Rex Ryan called Geno Smith's day at practice "brutal," the Jets announced, via their official Twitter account, that Sanchez would be the starter for the second preseason game on Saturday against Jacksonville. Smith, the Jets' 2013 second-round pick, is battling with embattled incumbant Sanchez for the Jets' starting quarterback job.

Smith threw three interceptions in practice on Wednesday and also had a deflected pass picked off.

"Oh, it was brutal," Ryan said. "That was Geno's worst day."

Sanchez was 10-for-13 for 125 yards and a touchdown as the starter during the Jets' preseason opener on Friday against the Lions. He also had a pass picked off and returned for a touchdown.

Smith, who relieved Sanchez in the game, was 6-for-7 for 47 yards and left early with an ankle injury. His Jets camp started well but has been inconsistent at best lately.

Sanchez, meanwhile, has generally received good reviews in practice.
