As expected, the Jets announced first-year quarterback Matt Simms will make his first professional start in Thursday night's preseason finale vs. the Eagles at MetLife Stadium.

The team also announced Mark Sanchez (shoulder) and Greg McElroy (knee) will not play. Rookie Geno Smith, however, is available. About an hour before kickoff, Smith threw passes in warmups and spent several minutes working alongside QBs coach David Lee.

Recently-signed Graham Harrell will serve as a backup quarterback for the night.

Cornerbacks Antonio Cromartie (hip) and Dee Milliner (calf), defensive tackle Kenrick Ellis (back), outside linebacker Quinton Coples (ankle), linebacker Josh Mauga (back), wide receiver Santonio Holmes (foot), tight end Kellen Winslow, center Nick Mangold (undislosed) and running back Mike Goodson (non-football injury) also will not play.
