Nothing but Jets

New York Jets news, commentary and insider info from beat writer Kimberley A. Martin.

New year begins with no answers from Rex

Fans hoping for answers from the Jets organization will have to wait a little longer.

Owner Woody Johnson and Rex Ryan are not scheduled to speak to the media Tuesday and future media availability has not yet been planned.

It seems the Jets are the only organization that didn't make their head coach available on Monday. Worse, even coaches who were fired on "Black Monday" addressed reporters.

Ryan, however, has retained his job. The same can't be said for Mike Tannenbaum

Johnson announced his decision to fire his general manager in a statement issued to the press Monday morning. In that same statement, he expressed his confidence in Ryan's ability to "successfully lead our team" in 2013. But the subsequent cancellation of Ryan's press conference that afternoon (and his weekly ESPN radio spot) only fueled speculation about the solidity of his job status.

A team spokesman said it was "an organizational decision" to not have Ryan speak publicly.

The Jets new GM will inherit Johnson's head coach -- that is, unless he chooses to part ways with Ryan in order to bring in his own guy.

As of now, it's unclear what either Johnson or Ryan are thinking.

And those of us in the media will have to wait, at least another day, before we can ask.
