RB Chris Ivory practices again; unsure if he'll play vs Jags
CORTLAND -- After weeks of being sidelined by a tight hamstring, bruising Jets running back Chris Ivory has now practiced two days in a row. But Ivory still was uncertain about whether he’ll play Saturday night against Jacksonville at MetLife Stadium.
“I don’t know that just yet, but it’s a possibility,” said the running back, who told reporters last week that he would be full-strength by now.
He said he’s comfortable with the playbook, but admitted: “I still need to be out there and get a couple more reps just to get more of the feel. But for the most part I felt pretty good.”
Ivory admitted there was some trepidation when he stepped onto the football field Monday morning. He had felt good, but he just wasn’t sure how his hamstring would react. But once he got his final hit out of the way in 9-on-7 drills, he was good to go.
“It was in the back of my mind but as I got going I just stopped thinking about it,” he said of his hamstring. “Just as I took a couple of reps it just kind of faded away.”
He said his recovery took longer than he thought it would, “but I’m back now so that’s behind me, but it did,” he said.
Though Ivory has yet to show his skills consistently on the playing field, the Jets coaching staff is pleased with the small sampling thus far.
“I like what I’ve seen in his past history, I like what I saw just a little bit in the offseason, and I certainly like what I’ve seen in the past couple of days so we’ll see,” said offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, when asked about the possibility of Ivory seeing action Saturday. “That’s a little fluid. The only thing I can say right now is I think he’s feeling pretty good.”
So what can Jets fans expect to see from Ivory on the playing field?
“I think that’s something you’ll have to judge for yourself once you see me in live action,” he said. “A lot of people try to put you in a category, I’m not just a power back, I can do everything. But you’ll just have to see when the time comes.”
