Report: Jets interested in WR Heyward-Bey
The Jets are interested in former Raiders receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey, according to a ProFootballTalk.com report.
The seventh overall pick in the 2009 draft was cut by Oakland last Tuesday, along with fellow former first-rounder safety Michael Huff, and defensive end Dave Tollefson (a former Giant).
Heyward-Bey caught 140 passes for 2,071 yards and 11 touchdowns in 56 games, but his price tag -- a $7.721 million salary and $10 million cap hit -- was too much for the Raiders to absorb. The Maryland product, spent almost 24 hours in a hospital last season after suffering a hellacious endzone hit from former Steelers safety Ryan Mundy in Oakland's Week 3 win.
Mundy -- who, coincidentally, was signed as a free agent by the Giants last week -- was fined $21,000 by the NFL.
Jets wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal was Heyward-Bey's position coach in Oakland.
