Rex explains no claim on Babin

The Jets never put in a claim for former Eagles defensive end Jason Babin.

That might come as a shock to some Jets fans, considering Rex Ryan has spent the past few weeks talking about the need for an improved pass rush.

But just three teams put in waiver claims for Babin: the Redskins, Jaguars and Bills.

And he was awarded to Jacksonville – the team with the league’s lowest sack total (13). The Jets, who face the Jaguars on Dec. 9, have 17 sacks (30th in the NFL).

Asked why the organization didn’t put in a claim, Ryan said: “We got to focus on rushing the passer from the guys that we have. We have to get better at rushing the passer.

“Those are things I’m looking for right now, instead of this player, that player, we absolutely notice we have to get to the quarterback better than we have. …But I know we have the ability to rush the passer with this group of players, we just got to get it done.”
