***Updated @ 7:02 p.m.***
Rex Ryan was involved in a three-car accident more than a week ago in Pennsylvania but was not hurt, according to the police report.
The crash occurred at 6:13 p.m. on Jan. 14 when Rex Ryan’s 2013 red Ford Mustang collided with another vehicle when he ran a red light, according to a witness. The car Ryan was driving struck the driver-side front panel of a second vehicle, causing it to spin into a third car.
According to the report, the Jets coach told police he “tried to beat the light.” Ryan, though, denied speeding but did not deny causing the accident. The driver of car No. 2, however, said Ryan was “traveling at a high rate of speed.”
All three vehicles sustained “moderate” damage, but no individuals involved were injured.Per the police report, Ryan received a written warning for the red light violation.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the Bethlehem police were waiting to speak to another witness before completing its investigation.
The news of Ryan’s accident was first reported by sports news web site Deadspin.com and later confirmed by the Jets. Ryan -- who currently is in Mobile, Ala. with new general manager John Idzik for this week’s Senior Bowl workouts – declined to comment.
The coach is expected to be on hand for Thursday’s introductory news press conference with new general manager John Idzik.
