Rex Ryan hopeful Dustin Keller, Nick Mangold will play; unsure about Sione Pou'ha
According to the injury report: Po’uha, Ellis, Conner, Gates, Landry and Mangold did not practice. Scott, Thomas, David Harris (hamstring), Keller, Stephen Hill, Eric Smith (knee) and Jeremy Kerley (finger/illness) were limited.
The Jets injury list is a sad sight for Jets fans, but Rex Ryan offered somewhat positive news Wednesday morning.
The coach said he feels better about the chances of TE Dustin Keller (hamstring) playing Sunday vs. Indy than rookie WR Stephen Hill, who also has a hamstring injury. Both players will be limited in Wednesday's practice.
The coach also is hopeful Nick Mangold (ankle) will play too, though the coach didn’t provide the center's MRI results. Ryan said he believes Mangold’s injury is a “regular” sprain, rather than a high ankle sprain.
Now here's the troubling news: The outlook on Sione Po’uha’s injury status still is cloudy, however. The nose tackle, who has been dealing with a stiff lower back since training camp, will not practice Wednesday – along with backup NT Kenrick Ellis (knee), FB John Conner (hamstring), Mangold, WR Clyde Gates (shoulder) and S LaRon Landry (pitch count).
Ryan said he isn’t sure of the severity of Po’uha’s back injury, nor did he divulge whether the veteran defensive lineman is undergoing additional tests or treatment or, as he did during training camp. Though the coach wouldn't confirm Ellis' injury, it is believed the second-year defensive lineman has an MCL sprain -- so it wasn't a surprise Ryan said it "doesn't look good this week for Ellis" facing the Colts.
Gates told me after Monday night’s loss to Houston that his shoulder “popped out” but X-rays were “all good.” Ryan said he doesn’t think the receiver’s injury is serious, but he’s not sure how long it’ll take him to recover.
CB Aaron Berry (ribs), LB Bart Scott (toe), LB Bryan Thomas (hamstring), Hill and Keller will be limited in practice.
