Saints re-sign RB Ivory; could Jets deal be next?

The Saints announced Friday that they have re-signed restricted free agent running back Chris Ivory to a one-year, $2.023 million deal. And that move may open the door for a trade to the Jets.

A source confirmed to Newsday Friday that the Jets are interested in acquiring Ivory, who visited with the team on April 12. And, according to the Daily News, the Jets have already made an offer.

Signing Ivory, 25, to an offer sheet was never really an option for the Jets, who would have been forced to give the Saints their second-round pick (39th overall) in next week's draft. So now that the running back has signed his restricted tender, he's eligible to be traded for far less -- most likely, a fourth-, fifth- or sixth-round selection.

Ivory -- who is currently in a log-jam at running back behind Mark Ingram, Darren Sproles and Pierre Thomas -- has been slowed by injuries during his three-year tenure in New Orleans. He also was a healthy inactive for much of the last season.

The Jets signed former Raider Mike Goodson to a three-year deal worth $6.9 million in March after former No. 1 back Shonn Greene left in free agency to join the Titans.
