One day after complaining about getting only one pass reception in the Jets’ loss at Tennessee, wide receiver Santonio Holmes took to Twitter to suggest his comments were misinterpreted by that ever-present enemy: the New York-New Jersey media.

For the record, Holmes said on Thursday, “I can’t throw it to myself and catch it, otherwise I would.” Given a chance to express his thoughts on rookie quarterback Geno Smith, Holmes said his perspective wouldn’t matter to the media and he would “allow the coaches to take care of those responsibilities and make the corrections and the changes that need to get corrected.”

Sometimes, things sound more harsh in print than they do in the moment, but it was hard to mistake Holmes’ frustration with his limited role in the offense through four games. Perhaps that frustration was amplified by the hamstring injury he suffered that is expected to keep him out of the Monday night game at Atlanta.

Whatever the reason, Holmes vented on Twitter Friday morning. “What a great morning 2 awake 2 hear the media frenzy about Holmes quitting on his team, and he sucks, and he always blaming someone else,” Holmes tweeted before practice.

In a second tweet, Holmes added, “For the record. This media stuff never distracts me, I hate that our #NyJets fans have to read this “crap” when things aren’t good!”

Holmes received an outpouring of support from Jets fans blaming the media for “twisting” his comments. One told him to stop talking, and Holmes noted that players get fined for refusing to talk to the media.

And so another day in Jets Land begins.
